Osama Bin Laden Dead: What next?

Regarding the news this week that the most wanted man in the world is dead, everyone, especially members of the military and the White House, have to ask themselves, what's next for the America? What is next regarding our foreign policy agenda? How much longer are we going to stay in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda? There are so many questions every citizen of the United States is going to be asking themselves up until the 2012 election.

I'd personally love to see the United States leave Afghanistan right now or in the coming weeks and months, but we obviously need to think about the safety of the Afghani people. What would happen if the U.S. leaves Afghanistan? Not only would the Taliban retain power, but they would implement this same radically strict Islamic law towards their people. Al Qaeda but continue their influence without Osama Bin Laden and continue to plot terrorist attacks throughout the world.

After seeing videos released by the Pentagon this weekend, it is easy to conclude that Bin Laden was still a key member who was leading attacks throughout the world. He also seemed to have an obsession about his public image in foreign countries.

But in the end, the mass murderer of over three thousand men, women, and children on September 11, 2001 is finally gone. The United States should enjoy this moment as long as we can.
